This "Editing guideline" outlines a standard of clean, consistent formatting for articles on this wiki. The formatting described here is a guideline and can be overridden where special circumstances warrant it. However, please try your best to read all the Guideline first and follow the advice outlined so others may use your edits as an example when creating and editing their own articles.

For information on how to edit or create pages see Help:Editing instead.

Important notice: The correct language to use on this wiki is American English "en-US".

Protagonist

In encyclopaedic articles, the protagonist of "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" should be referred to as "Fateless One".

As the player characters can be male or female, remember to write in a gender-neutral way.

The term "the player" (or similar term) should only be used to refer to the individual playing the game, not a character.

Wiki specific words/terms

This section covers the specific words/ terms that should be used when writing the articles and the places these words should be used.

Alfar Military - This term should be used when mentioning the forces fighting the Tuatha. Initially words such as "Alfar Alliance" and "Alfar Army" were used, but later this Wiki community has reached a consensus to use "Alfar Military" instead.

Discussions

Please note, the Talk pages are meant for discussions relating to their corresponding page. Discussions should NOT be started in the main article. See also: Bugs

Page Formatting

When creating a new page ensure the title is spelled correctly, and identify the relevant categories the page should belong to.

Spoilers

Pages containing spoilers should be identified by placing the {{Spoilers (Reckoning)}} template before the part containing spoilers

Quotes

When adding quotes to an article the {{Cquote}} template should be used. See the template page for usage instructions.

Links

Articles which have been mentioned on a page should be linked the first time that they appear and once again if they appear further down the page. Please refrain from linking to articles each time they are mentioned as this causes over-linking and may interrupt the flow of writing of the page being read.

Templates

Pages describing in-game items, locations, quests or NPCs should make use of the appropriate templates, as per table below.

Page type: Relevant Template(s):

A full list of templates which are used on the Amalur Wiki can be found at Category:Templates.

Additionally, if an achievement is associated with a given quest, NPC, location etc. the article should use the {{ReckoningAchievement}} template to mark this.

Infobox Images

Any images used in the templates describing in-game locations, quests or NPCs should be set to a maximum width of 250px. Images for in-game items should have a maximum width of 200px.

Layout

Each page should be laid out in sections (on top of using the correct templates), the exact breakdown of which will vary depending on the purpose of the page. Some suggested sections can be found in the table below.

For examples of good pages see next section: Examples.

For additional requirements for certain articles below see Notes.

Quests

Quest Items

Creatures

Trolls

Note: The Description section of in-game items should just contain italicized text and any indentations (:) should not be used and removed from pages which currently support this.

Bugs

The game contains bugs and glitches, as any other. If a bug is found relating to a quest/item/character/etc and it is not listed on the corresponding page, then a separate section should be created (such as ==Bugs==, typically at the bottom) and the bug/glitch should be clearly and succinctly described there. However, possible bugs should first be discussed on the talk page for the article to which the bug relates. PLEASE do not include such discussions, or any discussions for that matter, on the article page itself.

See Also

This should be the last section of the page if there are no images in a Gallery. If there is a Gallery sub-heading then this section should appear above. The See Also section is used If there are other articles which are closely related to the one currently being viewed. For example, there are five Fae Cairns called Two Knights and a Troll, Part I, II, III etc. Under Two Knights and a Troll, Part I the "See Also" section would list the other four Fae Cairns of parts II to V.

Uploading Images and Videos

Image Requested

Images on the Wiki came from various sources and are of varying quality. This shouldn't usually be a problem as all constructive image uploads are greatly appreciated and really help illustrate the article. However some images may be deemed to be outdated or of particularly low quality and might need to be updated or be re-uploaded. Images that could be improved can be indicated by adding the "Image Requested" category which will go into Category:Image Requested.

Image uploading

Only Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning related images can be uploaded to this Wiki. Any unrelated images will be deleted without prior warning. Continued upload of unrelated images may result in a ban from this Wiki.

Video uploading

Only Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning related videos can be uploaded to this Wiki. Any unrelated videos will be deleted without prior warning. Continued upload of unrelated videos may result in a ban from this Wiki.

Categories

Images on this Wiki are also categorized by the purpose of the image e.g. Category:Location Image, Category:Character Images, Category:Quest Images etc.

We also have categories for the image of the item and a category for inventory card images (the information listed within the player inventory. See how the categories for Akara's Visage Model.png and Akara's Visage Inventory.png are organised as examples.

Category Formatting

Categories help with keeping this Wiki organized and are added at the end of articles.

If at all possible all articles should appear in their sub-categories and not in the parent categories themselves. For example, Studded Leather Chestpiece should only be categorized under the sub-category Category:Chestpieces (listed under Category:Core Components) and not under Category:Components.

Spelling and Grammar

Grammar is a writer's toolbox. You can't build good sentences without knowing how to use your tools. Since a wiki article must be as clear as possible for all the people reading it, editors must keep close to correct grammar standards to ensure clear communication. The correct language to use on this wiki is American English "en-US".

This Editing Guideline was partly inspired by The Fable Wiki:Manual of Style.
