By holding the Block key (//), the player is able to Block attacks. While Blocking, the player is initially unable to move, but after a short time can do so at a reduced speed. They will Block the next attack from any direction.
Compared to taking a hit without Blocking, Blocking an attack reduces the amount of time that the player is staggered for and the damage that the player receives, dependent on the Blocks Damage stat of their equipped shield, their Block Efficacy stat and their Skillful Defense rank.
Parry[]
If the player has a Kite Shield, Buckler, or Talisman equipped and times their Block just before an enemy attack, the attack will be parried instead. Parrying an enemy deals a small amount of damage and stagger, knocking away all enemies from the player within a small area around them. Parry's after-cast can be self-interrupted:
