A Bolgan Brute is a difficult enemy to defeat because of its massive shield that blocks nearly all damage from nearly all attacks.

To defeat a Bolgan Brute, the Fateless One may take one of two strategic options.
The first option is to use an ability that moves around the brute's shield. Known examples include:
- Quake
- Lunge
- Gambit
- Frost Trap
- Tempest
- Mage's Vortex
- possibly Arrow Storm
The second option requires careful timing or a weapon or spell with medium to long range. When the Bolgan Brute charges or attacks, its shield is raised for a time and thus is vulnerable to damage. However, since the brute's attacks are quite strong and always either knock away or ignore blocking, this is a very risky option for less durable characters and less precise players.
