Description[]

I'll admit it. My past is a tapestry of drunkenness and loose morals, women and wine. I am not proud of it, but I couldn't have gotten where I am without making mistakes.

Details[]

Brother Delf is a monk of the Order of Mitharu at St. Odwig's Mission in Gorhart. He can first be seen after the player finishes the Side Quest, Crisis of Faith (after which St. Odwig's Mission becomes available to visit). Delf is usually found manning the Sagecraft Altar in the reliquary of St. Odwig's. The player can kill Brother Delf at anytime, but doing so is considered a crime and results in the player being subdued by guards. This NPC appears in all versions of the game.

Background[]

Brother Delf was a raider in the Red Legion for years[1], but, in pursuit of something "more", he, among others, faked his death[2] and deserted; he later became a monk in Gorhart. Red Idward later tracked Brother Delf down[2][3] and demanded that he satisfy the Blood Rite by killing the two men that deserted with him (those men being Itran the Shade and Ugnar Odgray (the ladder of which can also be found in Gorhart, next to Gorhart Inn)) and presenting proof by giving Red their daggers. When asked about the Blood Rite situation, Delf states that he could hand himself over to Red but that it would result in him being killed, and that he was also incapable of killing Itran and Ugnar Odgray[4]. He fears that his former comrades-in-arms will fulfill the Blood Rite themselves by killing him and taking his dagger[5].

Once the player has accepted Brother Delf's Quest, he will give them his Red Legion Dagger.

When the player confronts Red Idward, he reveals that the fulfillment of the Blood Rite would have been useless as it was reserved as "a privilege of the Red Legion" and that Delf "lost that privilege when he betrayed us"[6].

It filled the hunger I was hoping to sate with wine, women, anything and everything. This mission gives my life meaning.

when asked about St. Odwig's Mission.

The people here are kind, yet suspicious. They believe that the mission harbors secrets and they're right.

when asked about Gorhart Village.

I fought under Red for years, yet I know nothing of him. I do know this: he will do anything to get what he wants. The most dangerous kind of man is one without limits.

when asked about Red Idward.

It's done? I don't know how I feel. It's like... like the end of a long nightmare. How can I ever thank you? I took up a collection around the Mission. I lied and said it was for charity, but you understand... The others can never know. Thank you.

upon completing his quest.

See you soon.

Notes[]

  • If you stay on Delf's side during his Side Quest, he will reward you, unlike Red Idward.
  • Cannot be pickpocketed in the Remastered version of the game (has nothing to steal).
  • Not only will Delf reward you with gold coins, but he will also reward you with his key to a randomised chest in the basement of St. Odwig's that would otherwise be inaccessible.

  3. "I never thought it would happen... they're coming. Even with everything else going on in this village, the Red Legion is coming for me." -Brother Delf when greeting the player.
  4. "I could hand myself over to Red, but he'd have me killed. The only other choice is tokill the men who left with me, and I can't do that. I'm not the man I used to be." -Brother Delf when asked 'Isn't there another way?'
  5. "Ugnar works in Gorhart Village. Itran haunts the ruins near Haxhi, still struggling with his demons. Be on your guard. I fear they will likely come for me, as well." -Brother Delf in response to you accepting his Quest by saying 'I will take care of it.'
  6. "So, you're here, on behalf of Delf, that traitorous sow. I gather you're here to send a message, as well. Let me guess, blood has been paid for his crimes? What Delf doesn't realise is that the Blood Rite is a privilege of the Red Legion, and he lost that privilege when he betrayed us." -Red Idward when asked about Ugnar Odgray.
