Forums: Index > Game Discussion > What is the best Ability or Ability combo character?

I just started playing kings of amalur and have played may games like it. I wanted to hear what opinions people have on character builds and ability trees. THANKS! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.37.1.114 (talkcontribs)

Please remember to sign your post. Four tildes at the end of your post. That's 4 of these "~" I'm currently working my way through level 37. I've repsec'd my character several times with most of the emphasis mostly being on finesse and sorcery. I would just kinda bounce back and forth always putting an emphasis on weapon mastery in either style. With sorcery, I never really bothered with sceptre's seeing as they use up mana. I would just use a staff and a pair of chakrams balanced out with spells. I never reallly went that far into sorcery though. I would always end up putting pionts into finesse and more or less have a mage slayer. Last time I respec'd (lvl 20 or so) I put all of my points into finesse and just recently (lvl 30) started putting points up for chakram mastery again. As far as my finesse mastery goes I'm fully invested in finesse except for the following:

only 3 points in Gambit

no points in Frost Trap

need atleast 8 more points in the longbow tree

I base my strategy off of fighting groups so I almost always open up with a sneak attack follwed by shadow flare, and based on the size of the group I roll back and use gambit, followed by alot of lunges and dagger charges. If there's a powerhouse in the group with a lot of health (Juttin Runelord etc. etc.) I drop a smoke bomb and get off another sneak attack and bring out the faeblades to mop up the rest with DoT affects. I'm also a big fan of potions, but I tend to come out of a lot of big fights finding that I used to many buff's ( overall damage resistance, poison damage, physical damage, crit % boosters). That's just mo. Dopesmylez 05:14, May 22, 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, in Reckoning tactics and/or skills only matter until you start crafting items. Once you get some decent components and craft items a simple defend/parry/attack or dodge/attack mix is enough for almost anything, and the only skills you might need are the weapon mastery ones.
I used to play a faeblade finesse build (with a handful of points in other trees for endurance, shield block, or mana cost). Now I'm a finesse-sorcery (faeblade/chakram) just to get the final destiny in that tree because I like blinking around. I stopped using almost any skills around level 15, when I started crafting my armor and weapons (could have done it earlier, but didn't add any points to smithing). Until level 20 I sometimes used lunge on large enemies that liked to use forms of unstoppable charge, afterwards even that stopped mattering.
With crafted Faeblades you're a tornado of massive damage, and if the enemies use ranged attacks and/or are packed close together then Chakrams simply obliterate them. Crafted armor with +% Armor, or +% Damage res ensures you're invulnerable in the rare situations when something actually manages to attack you.
If you're not using overpowered crafted items then the post above describes a good strategy for a finesse char. -- Gyumaou (Talk) 23:04, May 22, 2012 (UTC)

I started playing Amalur about a week ago, and I went into the game (after the demo) thinking I was going to be a balance of might and finess, leathe armor, swords and bows, but instead I noticed that I found it a lot more fun to sink my points mostly into might, so I respected my character and leveled up my Shadow Flare and Longbow Mastery, and then sunk the rest of my points into Harpoon (awesome) Longsword Mastery and Quake. Using Shadow Flare at close range (deadly against trolls) along with Quake to help with groups and Harpoon for Rangers, wolves and sprites. I may put some more points into Magic so I can have more mana, because I usually find myself out of mana after 1 or two of my ful combo abilities. Also, I have Teeth of Naros, completed it (second progress after the fate clipping glitch) and have been using the reward armor set ever since, which is very good as it has the best stats at the time and good bonus' for my warrior. Hope this helps people. TheRealTerminal 23:56, May 22, 2012 (UTC)
