Hessen Bay, the speculated area of Laran home of the Hylarans
The Hylarans are a race of reptilian people from Laran in the world of Amalur. Little is known about them, except that they are a peaceful race and reclusive by nature. It can be inferred that they live in small communities (possibly tribes), underneath the water and along the banks of the Hessen River, as they are not known to have any permanent structures or cities. The spread of the Almain kingdom of Crownhold was their main source of tension on the continent of Alfaria, with the founding of Nordenholdt in 641 BE (2636 NW) leading them to retreat to their underwater dwellings.

- Laran is not explicitly shown on any world map of Amalur, but we can infer its inclusion in the continent of Alfaria due to "Hessen Bay" found in the south-central part of the continent. A stylised world map created by Drew Whitmore, drawn as concept art for Project Copernicus, shows a large river flowing vertically across the continent of Alfaria and joining with Hessen Bay, which we can logically assume is the Hessen River.
