Amalur Wiki

Most items in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and its DLCs are classified as random loot. This means that every time a chest or container is opened, there is a small chance that an item may be found there. Similarly for corpses and NPCs that you can pickpocket, whenever a corpse is looted there is a small chance to find an item.

Loot spawning behaves in different ways depending on the source:

  • Loot from enemies is generated randomly at the moment the enemy is killed. Thus, the game can be saved and reloaded in an attempt to obtain better/different loot.
  • Loot found from chest or containers in an area location (e.g. houses, building, dungeons, cities) are randomly generated upon entry. Any loot that is found in these areas are predetermined the moment you enter. Leaving the area and returning after the first time will not alter the loot obtained.
    • This means that the loot obtained from any chests or searching defeated enemies in that area is predetermined and will not be randomized again on looting.
    • This also applies to any loot found in the open world. For example if you enter a region such as Glendara at level 10, all loot found in the open world area of this region will be generated the moment you enter and is locked at level 10 even after leaving and returning at a higher level.
      • However you can still obtain higher level loot if you enter one of the region's caves or dungeon at a higher level e.g. entering Coilsbain (area level range 4-14) at level 12 will randomly generate loot and scale it to level 12.
    • However it is therefore possible to save before entering a house or dungeon, search through the area for any useful loot and then save again after completing the area or reload the save depending on whether the loot found was desirable to the player.
  • Pick-pocketed NPCs do not reset their inventories; they only restore procedurally generated amounts of gold after a certain amount of time has passed.

Scripted Loot[]

Some items have scripted locations and those will therefore be obtained in the same location or in the same circumstances in every playthrough. This also includes items that are received as fixed rewards for specific quests.

In Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning there is a very small number of items whose locations are scripted. The Legend of Dead Kel DLC adds a significantly larger number of items with scripted locations. Known items with scripted locations are listed below for the core game and each DLC.
