It's design and theory will perplex you, so think of it as a small, portable revivifier. A Well of Souls for use on the field of battle.

Effie Cruikshank, describing Necro Crystals to the Fateless One

Description[]

Necro Crystals are hostile devices that appear exclusively in the Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Fatesworn DLC expansion pack side quest "Of Life and Death". Created by Gnome scholar Effie Cruikshank, Necro Crystals are portable devices that resurrect fallen soldiers on the battlefield. They are comprised of a large red crystal spinning counterclockwise within a contrarotating tripod-like housing floating above a ring-shaped base. Although they possess no offensive or defensive capabilities themselves, the Necro Crystrals are quite robust and resistant to damage. Furthermore, they attract hordes of Faer Gorta and Sons of Laz that will swarm in and attaack anyone that gets too close to them.

Effie Cruikshank created the Necro Crystal inside The Wallows years before being reassigned to Allestar Tower to assist Fomorous Hughes with the development of the Well of Souls. During that time Effie continued to research and develop her invention in the belief that the device would eclipse the Well of Souls and elevate her above her colleagues. However, according to Research Notes found inside the Roadside Shack the Necro Crystals were flawed devices, too weak to serve as power sources, unable to effectively control the hordes of undead they revived, and unable to work in close proximity to the Well of Souls due to the interference they created. Though he displayed interest at first, Ventrinio Descellini attempted to cancel further research and development of the Necro Crystal in favor of more advanced necromancy research. This was stopped only by the intervention of Fomorous Hughues. Sometime either during or shortly after the events of the Crystal War Effie would return to Mithros to continue her research.
