”A savage beast plagues the area surrounding the village of Gale Crossing. I should investigate where this monster came from and how it hunts.”

Description[]

Night Barghest is a side quest in the Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Fatesworn DLC expansion pack. It becomes available to the Fateless One after speaking to Nina Taggert in Gale Crossing village.

Walkthrough[]

Kill the Night Barghest[]

“This Night Barghest is cursed. Believe me. The light of the moon grants it armor, and the stars sharpen its fangs.”
~Roth Garver

The Night Barghest can be found near the westernmost of the Mithroliths at Three Winds Crutch west of Gale Crossing around 3:00 am (in-game time).

Unlike others of its kind, the Night Barghest is protected by a magical barrier that is automatically triggered when the beast is attacked. The barrier protects and revitalizes it by instantaneously restoring lost health, thus making the Night Barghest practically indestructible. However, Roth Garver provides a valuable clue:

”This Night Barghest is cursed. Believe me. The light of the moon grants it armor, and the stars sharpen its fangs … Mark my words. The key to its destruction lies in the warm glow of the morning.”

The Night Barghest is strengthened by the light of the moon and stars and weakened by sunlight. Therefore, to defeat the Night Barghest the Fateless One must wait until dawn (5:00 a.m. in-game time) when the light of the rising sun strips the creature of its powers and leaves it vulnerable to attack.

The Night Barghest’s attacks can be fended off with a skillful use of either Block & Parry (The Emergence buckler’s ability to stun enemies after a successful parry is particularly well-suited to this tactic) or dodged using combat rolls/teleports. Ice-based weaponry or abilities can also be used to impede the creature’s movement speed. The Fateless One can also simply wait until dawn arrives and attack when the sun’s light strips the Night Barghest of its protective barrier. Regardless of the strategy or tactics used, the Fateless One will only have a limited window of opportunity (approximately 30 minutes in-game time) to kill the Night Barghest before the creature retreats back to the Mithroliths of Three Wind’s Crutch and disappears.

Thia side quest is complete once the Night Barghest has been slain.

Reward[]

”I found and killed the savage Night Barghest plagueing the area around the village of Gale Crossing.”
  • Level-dependent XP

Notes[]

  • If the Night Barghest escapes return to Gale Crossing and sleep at the Gemstone Tavern until approximately 3:00 a.m. (in-game time), or use the bedroll in Roth Garver's tent at Three Winds Crutch. The beast will continue to reappear at the same time and place until it’s slain.
