Details[]
- ”Concerned father Baldo Bergmann has asked me to look into the disappearance of several young settlers near Revival. The Warsworn are too busy to investigate, and the vanishings have only gotten worse in recent days.”
Description[]
The Taken is a side quest available in the Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Fatesworn DLC expansion pack. It becomes available to the Fateless One after speaking to Baldo Bergmann in the Revival resettlement camp.
Walkthrough[]
Find the Kidnappers[]
After the Fateless One receives this side quest from Baldo Bergmann proceed to the bandit camp west of Revival and eliminate the Vagabonds to free Maisie Calhoun and the other captives.
Find the Prisoner Market[]
- “I’ve found some of the kidnapped settlers from Revival, but many are still missing. Maisie Calhoun believes that the bandits are selling their prisoners for cheap labor, but she doesn’t know the location of the market where they are taken. I should keep an eye out for more information as I explore Mithros.”
After speaking with Maisie Calhoun open the treasure chest next to the camp’s fire pit and collect The Salon Magisterium Key, then head south towards The Salon Magisterium and unlock the concealed door with the key. Once inside, advance down the halls and defeat the Vagabond patrols until the Fateless One reaches the large circular chamber in structure's north wing.
Free the Prisoners[]
- “I’ve discovered the prisoner market in [The Salon Magisterium]sic, and now I must defeat the guards and free the captives. I must put an end to this barbarism immediately!”
With prisoner market’s location revealed the next step is to eliminate the Vagabonds and Handlers guarding the captive settlers. Eliminating the archers on the upper level is recommended before going up against the Handlers and Vagabonds on the lower level. Once they’ve been slain unlock the cages to free the captives, then search one of the Handler corpses to find a key piece of evidence: an Invitation to Labor Auction.
Confront Mayor Flanagan[]
- “According to the invitations I found on the bodies of the market guards, it is Mayor Finola Flanagan of Revival who has organized this event. She has been snatching her own people and selling them as labor. I must confront her.”
Return to Revival and speak with Mayor Flanagan to confront over the kidnapping ring. The Mayor will deny the accusations, feign ignorance, and claim that the missing settlers wandered off and disappeared. However, once the Fateless One shows her the evidence from The Salon Magisterium she will confirm her involvement, but also reveals that she’s merely a link in the chain and that someone else is in charge. At this point the Fateless One is presented with the following dialogue option:
- CONFESS… FOR YOUR CITIZENS (PERSUASION): If the Fateless One is successful, Mayor Flanagan will be persuaded to reveal the identity of the kidnapping ring’s true mastermind: Philomena Goodchild, a high-ranking Mitharan noblewoman from Crownhold City. There is a 66% chance of success if the Fateless One has fully mastered the Persuasion skill.
Expose Philomena Goodchild[]
- ”Mayor Flanagan confessed that Philomena Goodchild is the mastermind of the kidnapping ring. Philomena lives in the city of Crownhold. I should search her home for proof of her crimes.”
The next step is to investigate Philomena Goodchild’s estate in Crownhold City for evidence proving she's the mastermind behind the kidnapping ring. Follow the road northward to Crownhold City, then head to the Lightwatch Inn. The Fateless One can confront Philomena Goodchild at this point but she’ll just dismiss the accusations as an attempt to extort money by spreading slanderous gossip. Instead, find and unlock the inn’s cellar door (Average-level lock), then descend the ladder into the cellar.
Free the Prisoners[]
- “I found more prisoners in the cellar of Philomena Goodchild’s estate. I must free them and confront Philomena directly.”
In the cellar, the Fateless One discovers cages holding several settlers captive including Baldo Bergmann’s missing daughter, Heidi. Unlock the cages to free the captives.
Confront Philomena Goodchild[]
- ”There is no doubt Philomena Goodchild is behind the kidnappings and the prisoner auctions. I must confront her and end her crimes against the new settlers of Mithros.”
Head back upstairs, speak to Philomena Goodchild to confront her about the captive settlers in the cellar, and then defeat her and her guards when they retaliate.
Return to Baldo Bergmann[]
- “I have destroyed the kidnapping ring in Crownhold and rescued Balder Bergmann’s daughter, Heidi. I must return to Revival and bring him the good news.”
With Philomena Goodchild slain and the missing settlers freed, return to Revival and speak to Baldo Bergmann to complete the quest.
Reward[]
- ”I uncovered a kidnapping ring enabled by Revival’s own mayor, Finola Flanagan. Working in partnership with a noble in Crownhold, she orchestrated the abduction and sale of refugees from the east. It is a troubling affair, but I’m glad I was able to end it.”

Notes[]
- The in-game text for “Free the Prisoners” erroneously names Crownhold City as the slave market’s location instead of inside The Salon Magisterium.
